Chester Arthur Kalanikuikamoku Dilley Sr. passed away peacefully at his residence on February 21, 2025, at the age of 89.
Born on April 11, 1935, and raised on Maui, Chester Dilley was preceded in death by his older sister, Amber Grasa, who passed away in 2003. He is survived by his four children: Cheryl Ann Kahalelani Miller, Chester Arthur Kalanikuikamoku Dilley Jr., Christine Elizabeth Alohalani Bartlett, and Frances Ann Puaokalani Dilley. Additionally, he leaves behind two grandchildren, Madison Anelaokalani Kuzia and Jake Kekoaokalani Kuzia.
Chester graduated from St. Anthony's High School. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, completing a four-year term that included assignments in Okinawa and the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea.
Following his military service, he attended Mouna Olu College, where he met his first wife, Betsy. Renowned for his beautiful tenor voice, Chester served as Choir Director at Makawao Catholic Church for several years, contributing his talents to numerous Christmas pageants, weddings, birthdays, and graduation ceremonies.
In the 1990s, he had the privilege of traveling to Europe for two and a half months with the Maui Philharmonic Symphony and the choir, performing across multiple countries to great acclaim.
A dedicated family man, Chester owned and operated a successful business specializing in the repair and refinishing of furniture. He generously offered employment to relatives, giving them an opportunity to grow in the skill of restoring used furniture into works of art.
An avid outdoorsman, he cherished hunting, fishing, and camping with his family and cousins, leaving a lasting legacy of love, fun, and special memories.
Chester Dilley will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In accordance with his wishes, no formal services will be held.
