Jerome Mook

Jerome Keala Mook of Wailuku, passed away peacefully at home on April 15, 2025. Born January 22, 1951, to James Lei Mook and Veronica Kahale Pilayo Mook, he grew up in Waimanalo and worked at Job Corps in Kokee, Kauai. A Vietnam-era Army Veteran, he later pursued various occupations, notably as a hair stylist and in food prep. Since moving to Maui in 1989, he enjoyed a country life style and could often be spotted about town on his red scooter. Jerry was a devoted companion and father, and beloved “Uncle” to his many friends. Much gratitude to the VA medical staffs at Tripler Hospital, Palo Alto Spinal Cord Injury Center, Community-based health providers, Maui Memorial Hospital and Maui Hospice for extraordinary care. Above all, the kindness and tireless advocacy from Maui VA nurses and doctors these many years were unmatched.

Jerome is survived by partner Eloise Shak, daughters Phoebe Ann Puamana Mireles, Elena Uilani Mireles, son Aliikona Keala Mook Shak, grandchildren Ava, Gisella, Juliana, Cassandra and Miguel, siblings Yvonne, Michael, Darlene, Kathleen and Greena and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service will be held at the Nakamura Mortuary on Lower Main Street, Thursday, May 15. Viewing from 5 p.m. with service at 6 p.m. Refreshments to follow in the adjoining hall.

A memorial and scattering of ashes will occur on Oahu at a future date.
