Kazuo Koyanagi

Kazuo “Pops” Koyanagi, 98, of Wailuku, Maui, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, surrounded by family, under the care of Hospice Maui. He was born on April 27, 1926, in Waiehu. Pops attended Waihee School and started working in the sugarcane fields at age 16. He retired as a welder after over 45 years of service from Wailuku Sugar Company in 1988.
He loved driving his grandchildren to school and spending time with his family. He enjoyed dancing at bon dances and at family parties. He loved helping others.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Nakamura Mortuary. The service will begin at 10a.m. Burial will follow at 12:30p.m. at Maui Memorial Park in Wailuku.
Pops was predeceased by his beloved wife, Tatsuyo. He is survived by his son, Brian (Rosalina); 3 grandchildren, Michelle, Kristofer (Ashley) and Jamie Lyn; 2 great-grandchildren, Kayden and Miya and his sister Yuriko Ajifu.
