Allen Emura

Allen Isao Emura, 82, of Honolulu, HI passed away on June 9, 2025. Born on September 27, 1942 in Honolulu and raised in Wailuku, Maui. Son of George and Kimiyo “Kay” Emura who were proud owners of Emura Jewelry & Gift Shop in Wailuku. Allen was a student at Kaunoa English Standard School, then Baldwin High School where he graduated with the class of 1960. He left Maui to attend the University of Illinois and later, the University of Hawaii where he obtained a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in fine arts. He was deployed with the Hawaii Army National Guard in Vietnam from 1968-1969. A lifelong public servant with the Hawaii Department of Education, he retired in 2006. As an ardent supporter of the arts, he spearheaded Art at the Capitol with former Senator Brian Taniguchi. Allen served tirelessly on many boards and community organizations: Hawaii Youth Symphony, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, Hawaii State Art Museum, and Hawaii Opera Theater. Aside from his passion in the arts, he became a devoted grandfather to his granddaughter Elise born in 2017. In his final days, he was surrounded by his beloved family and countless friends by his side. Allen was known for his generous spirit, thoughtful discourse, and his Christmas decorations. His brother Howard passed before him. He is survived by his son Jonathan (Jane), granddaughter Elise, and brother Michael (Susan). Pursuant to his wishes, no funeral service will be held.
