Alfonso Icalla Ibanez

Alfonso Ibanez, 85, passed away peacefully at home on August 19, 2025, in Kihei, Maui, Hawai’i.

Born in the Philippines on July 6, 1940, to the late Arsenio and Juliana Ibanez, Alfonso lived a life with resilience, hard work, and a steadfast spirit. He dedicated many years to the Pioneer Mill Company as an irrigator until a workplace accident left him disabled. Even then, Alfonso never allowed hardship to define him–his resourcefulness and ingenuity led him to create solutions from the simplest scraps, a true testament to his determination.

Alfonso’s greatest legacy was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Julita Balagso Ibanez, and their children: Cris (Michelle) Ibanez of Las Vegas, Jessie (April) Ibanez of Kihei, and Rex (Marilyn) Ibanez of Las Vegas. He was a proud grandfather to Jake, Isabelle, Kailani, Isaiah, and Tiare, and a great-grandfather to Stella.

He is also survived by his sister, Pacita Ibanez (Rod) of Lahaina, his sister in law, Marilyn (Isidro) Ibanez of Alaska, his cherished Balagso ‘Ohana’ and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was predeceased by his siblings Artemio, Isidro, Jose, and Magdalena.

Alfonso's presence and spirit will be forever cherished.
