Robyn Walters

Robyn Marie Walters was born to Alice Courtney and Wilbur (Bud) Monroe Walters on June 6, 1937, in Morristown, NJ. She graduated from Madison High School (NJ) in 1955 and the US Naval Academy in 1960. She received a doctorate in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from MIT in 1971. Robyn served 20 years in the US Navy and retired as a Commander in 1980. She became a Senior Principal at American Management Systems, Inc. and Principal Engineer at CACI, Inc., while continuing her support of the Navy. Robyn, a lifelong student and mentor, helped countless people through her tireless volunteer work with transgender advocacy, The Distant Healing Network, and the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, receiving the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation Volunteer of the Year award in 2014. She was an avid, lifelong amateur radio operator and, later in life, fell in love with cruising and scuba diving around the world. Robyn is survived by her husband, Emery Walters, her children, Theresa Burke Melnikas, Kimberly Walters, Michelle Walters Klancnik, eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her eldest daughter, Susan Yee, and her grandchildren, Allison Burke and Ethan Klancnik. The details of a celebration of her life on Maui will soon be announced.
