Yemiko Taomoto
Yemiko “Judy” Taomoto, aged 88, beloved sister, mom, and grandma, went home to be with the Lord on October 17, 2025.
Judy was born on January 15, 1937 to Jenroku and Masako Arakawa in Paia, Maui. She is survived by daughter Charlene (Fred) Spencer, son Edward (Wendy) Taomoto, 5 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
Judy is also survived by sisters, Reiko (Henry) Arthur, Clara (Wallace) Nagano, Florence (Edward) Iida, and predeceased by brothers, Shigeru (Sadako) Arakawa, Calvin (Irene) Arakawa, Wallace (May) Arakawa, and Roy (Terri) Arakawa.
Judy grew up in Kaheka Camp, Paia, and attended Paia Elementary, Holy Rosary School, and graduated from Old Maui High School in 1956. She worked various jobs in restaurants and retail, but cosmetology is where she truly found her joy. She worked in the hair salon at Hale Makua, Wailuku before finally retiring in 2015. Although retired, she still made time to take care of hair cuts for friends.
Judy often could be found caring for her garden of plants and flowers. Tending to her plants brought peace to her soul. She enjoyed socializing at ballroom dancing, and karaoke singing events. Attending church and Bible study is where she grew her faith in God, while also connecting with friends.
Friends are invited to Judy’s memorial service to be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Nakamura Mortuary in Wailuku. Visitation with family begins at 9:00 am, service 10:00 am, with lunch to follow in the reception hall at the rear of the chapel.
