Gwen Brush
Gwen Brush, 83, passed away on March 25, 2026, in Wailuku, Hawaii. Born on April 29, 1942, Gwen was a passionate artist known for her metal sculptures and paintings that often celebrated Hawaiian culture. Her notable works include the Silversword sculpture at Kahului Airport and the Dolphin Sculpture at the MCC campus.
Gwen attended Huntington Beach High School and was deeply involved in her artistic pursuits throughout her life. She was a vibrant member of the community who cherished creating traditional ti leaf leis, flower arranging, and music. Gwen also enjoyed surfing and snorkeling in her younger days, embracing the natural beauty of her surroundings.
She is survived by her daughters, Cheri Beckerle and Kim Vaughan; sisters Paula Ross, Sharon Bladow, Darlene Colescott, and Donna Edgar; and many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister Judy Nailon and her parents, Gene Driggers and Zay Salyer.
A memorial service will be held in Whittier, CA, on April 25. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Kako'o Maui Fund, supporting local initiatives that were close to Gwen's heart. Gwen's legacy as an artist and community member will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
