David Kawika Smith Kanno, 76, of Lanai City, passed away on May 11, 2026, surrounded by family. He was born on June 9, 1949 on Molokai.
David was a loving husband, father, grandpa and Vietnam war hero, who loved Jehovah and was a friend to many. He served the Lanai community in various ways: did USPS for 45 years, a ground handler for private jets, was a transporter for funerals, delivery man, process server and repo man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Laverne Pua Nani Kanno; children, Kainoa Kanno (Lea), Charles Kawika Kanno, Robert Keoni Kanno, Raymond Alapaki Kanno, Naomi Kanoelehua Kanno (Lee), Casey Ikaika Kanno, Liana Puanani Kanno; 21 Grandchildren; many nephews & nieces; sisters, Phyllis (Tidi) Kanno (Matsuda), Joalla Millie Aiwohi (Garencial), Alicia K. Aiwohi (Kagawa), Harriet A. Aiwohi (Sequeira), Debralyn Aiwohi (Laquihon), Robbin Aiwohi (Kim); brothers, George Aiwohi Jr.; and Maitland K. Aiwohi.
Military honors ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at Lanai Veteran's Cemetery at 10am. A celebration of life for scattering of ashes to be determined at a later date.
