Felisa Luna Asuncion

Felisa Luna Asuncion, 94, of Kahului, Maui, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, at Straub Benioff Medical Center in Honolulu, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on January 4, 1932, in Wailuku, Maui, and attended St. Anthony Girls’ School, graduating with the Class of 1950.

Felisa worked as a warehouse employee at Maui Land & Pineapple Company, her one and only employer, and retired after 49 years of dedicated service. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Asuncion; three brothers; and three sisters.

A devoted Catholic, Felisa faithfully helped clean Christ the King Church every Saturday. She also assisted with church fundraisers and volunteered with the bereavement committee and food bank. She was a loving and supportive mother who attended her children’s many sports games and activities throughout the years. When her grandchildren came along, she continued that same unwavering support, often traveling to O’ahu and California to be present for their events and milestones.

Felisa was also active in ILWU (International Longshore and Warehouse Union) political action efforts. She participated in campaigning for Democratic-endorsed candidates through sign waving, neighborhood canvassing, and fundraising. She also attended legislative opening ceremonies at the State Capitol for many years.

Felisa enjoyed cooking and baking and generously shared her meals and treats with others. She will be remembered by many in the Maui community as a kind and generous woman who always put others before herself.

She is survived by her children, John Asuncion Jr. (Eleanor), Jo-Ann Yap, and Jerome Asuncion (Ann Marie); brother, Leon “Sani” Luna; sisters-in-laws, Christina Andres (Moses), Lois Asuncion, Irene Luna, and Victoria Vasconcellos; grandchildren, Jaret Asuncion (Blaire), Brittany Yap (Rod), Jerome “Ielome” Asuncion, and Breana-Malia Asuncion; great-grandchildren, Blakeley Asuncion, Reef Pontemayor, Brixton Asuncion, Tehya Pontemayor, and Brooklyn Asuncion; and many loving nieces and nephews.
