Gale Nakata

Gale Fusayo (Okamura) Nakata, 72, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 9, 2026.

A proud 1971 graduate of Lahainaluna High School, Gale was a familiar and welcoming face at the Territorial Savings Bank (Lahaina Branch), where she dedicated decades of service until her retirement. Her commitment to her community extended well beyond her work; she served faithfully as an active member and treasurer for the Lahaina Shingon Mission Church and was a fiercely loyal fan and supporter of the Lahainaluna High School Wrestling Team since 1986. Gale found her greatest joys in the simple pleasures of life–cherishing family get-togethers and potlucks, enjoying trips to Las Vegas, and sharing laughs over games of Mah Jong.

Gale's memory will be forever cherished by her high school sweetheart and loving husband, Neal Nakata; her daughters, Ginny (Jon) Yasutake and Nikki (Marc) Nishiguchi; her son, Nicholas (Tara) Nakata; grandchildren whom she loved dearly Cael, Chase, Cy, Cami, Taiga, and Kaizen, and her sister, Charlene Hayashida. She is preceded in death by her parents, Noboru “Lanai” and Toshie Okamura.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Lahaina Civic Center.

Our family is incredibly grateful to the first responders who helped Gale, and we offer our sincerest mahalo to everyone who has surrounded us with love, prayers, and strength during this difficult time in our lives. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
