Thomas White
Thomas W. White, 91, of Kihei, HI, passed away on June 13, 2026. He was born on November 20, 1934 in Syracuse, N.Y.
He graduated from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration in 1956 and
went on to own and manage three restaurants, Walter White’s Steak and Ale, Walter White’s Tavern and The White Lily, as well as a catering business in Upstate New York. He traveled to Paris in 1979, and received a culinary degree in French cooking from École de Cuisine La Varenne
He served on the board of directors for the New York State Restaurant Association from 1972-1980, as well as chapter president. He loved traveling to N.Y.C., armed with the newest Zagat guide, to dine at the best reviewed restaurants.
He remained in the hospitality business his whole life. In 1985, he moved to Maui, Hi, after his best friend from college, Bob Longhi, convinced him to work with him at Bob’s restaurant, Longhi’s.
He was an avid golfer and lover of his daily walks along the beach.
He is survived by his children Sara (Mims) and Betsy (Silverman) and son-in-law, Bob Silverman, as well as his grandchildren, Tom (Mims) and wife Chelsea, Tristan (Mims), Natalie (Silverman), Jake (Silverman) and wife Jasmine and Will (Silverman). He was preceded in death by his son Wally.
