Johnny's first employer was Hawaii Cane & Sugar. He worked at the Experiment Station for the Hawaii Sugar Planters' Association. Shortly thereafter, he began working full-time for the County of Maui Department of Public Works as a Refuse Collector. Because he was able to complete his daily work efficiently, he often took on additional jobs. He was a taxi driver for Maui Island Tour & Associates, a driver for Gray Line Motor Tours, and an employee of Andres Rent-a-Car.

Johnny worked for the County of Maui for more than 25 years before retiring. Even after retirement, he remained active and continued working part-time. Over the years, he worked as an Avis shuttle bus driver, an employee of Maui Soda & Ice Works Ltd., and also performed construction and landscaping work.

Johnny truly enjoyed sharing his aloha spirit and the beauty of Maui with visitors from around the world. He was known for his generous heart and willingness to help others, often dropping off home-cooked meals, delivering groceries, or lending a helping hand without ever being asked. Above all, Johnny cherished time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed cooking, going holo-holo around the island, sharing his life stories, and spending time with friends at the shopping malls. He also enjoyed traveling to the mainland to visit family, sightseeing, and occasionally trying his luck at the jackpot.
