Richard Wayne passed away on April 7, 2026, at the age of 75.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Victoria Wayne, and his sister, Nancy Kenney.
He is survived by his brother, Edward Wayne, and sister, Michelle Conlow, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
At a very young age, his parents started to call him Rick, as they both were fans of Ricky Ricardo from the *I Love Lucy Show*.
Rick was born in Philadelphia in 1950. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from LaSalle University. Shortly after graduation, he started his dream job as manager of the Harbor Theater, a group of movie theaters in the resort towns of Stone Harbor and Avalon, New Jersey. The lead theater secured top big-name hit movies but the smaller theaters relied on Rick's keen eye, intuition, and ability to choose independent and foreign films that would appeal to the diverse and upper-crust clientele of these resort towns. Not surprisingly, the independent films sometimes outdrew the more expensive Hollywood blockbusters. He always greeted the many theatergoers in a suit and tie, as if it were a Broadway show opening.
During the winter months, Rick worked as the warehouse manager for Maui Clothing Company, a chain of 23 resort retail stores in Hawaii, started by his brother, Edward. After the theaters sold, he became a full-time manager at Maui Clothing Company. In Maui, Rick was very active with the Catholic Church in Lahaina, at Maria Lanakila, and later at Sacred Heart in Kapahulu. For many years, Rick specifically enjoyed reading the Gospel to the congregation at Sunday Mass. His hope was that each reading would inspire someone in some small way to be a better person. He had an early calling towards the clergy; as a child, he even simulated giving communion to his sister, Michelle, but she drew the line and wouldn't let Rick take her confession.
With his laid-back lifestyle, he enjoyed living on Maui. He always liked taking long walks along the beach and participating in many other activities. He was a long-time member of the Lahaina Yacht Club and enjoyed meeting his friends over drinks and dinner.
While living in Stone Harbor, he frequently visited Henny's and loved joining in on the oldies sing-alongs with his friends. He was a huge fan of the Beach Boys and was seen rocking out and dancing in the front row at a Beach Boys concert.
His presence and warmth were a constant in our lives and he will be dearly missed.
Funeral Service and interment will be private for family and close friends. The family asks everyone for their prayers.
