Cherene Ann LeikoWaipiilani Shinyama,80, of Kahului, Maui,Hawaii passed awaypeacefully on July 20,2026 in Kahului.
She was born on October 28, 1945, to Tsuruichi Shinyama andAgnes Deponte. Cherene graduated from St.Anthony High School in1963. She loved to travel, so it was only fittingthat she opened up herown business in March1997 as the owner andoperator of CoconutsTravel Agency, Inc. inWailuku.
Cherene was preceded in death by her father, Tsuruichi Shinyama in 1968; her mother,Agnes Deponte Shinyama in 2007; her brothers, Garry Shinyama in1995 and Leslie Shinyama in 2006; and herson, Alan Grindling II in2018.
Cherene is survivedby her son, ChristopherGrindling; daughters, A.Pomai Takemoto andAnnika Kukahiko;grandsons, Tyler Grindling, and Aaron, Jonah, JJ, Josiah and Judah Takemoto; andgranddaughter, Kulamanu Grindling.
Services will be heldat Christ the KingChurch on Monday,September 21, 2026.Public viewing will begin at 9:00am, withMass to follow at11:00am. Private burialwill take place followingthe Mass.
