Eric Shigeo Umetsu, 62, of Wailuku, Maui, passed away peacefully with his wife close by at the Hale at Hospice Maui on January 11, 2018. Eric enjoyed his own CPA practice in the Kahului building for 30 years then semi-retired moving to a home office for three more years before finally enjoying full retirement in 2016. Eric also enjoyed travelling and exploring new places with his wife on their own, going to the movies and dining out. Gilbert “Gil” Dela Cruz Vinoray, 71 of Kihei, Maui, passed away at Maui Memorial Medical Center on January 22, 2018. He was born on May 3, 1946 in Piddig, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. Gil was a builder of residential homes and built many homes in Maui. • Correction Roy Shoji Yashiro, 90, of Wailuku, quietly passed away on December 19, 2017 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. Private services were held on January 20, 2018. Roy was peacefully laid to rest next to his wife, Flora (“Flo”), at the Maui Veterans’ Cemetery in Makawao. Nakamura Mortuary assisted with arrangements. John Harris Sample, 64, of Maalaea, Maui, passed away on January 9, 2018. He was born on August 15, 1953, in Spokane, Washington. John retired from the U.S. Navy. Donato Remigio, 97, of Lahaina, Maui passed away on December 19, 2017 at his residence under the care of his loving family and Hospice Maui.
