Lloyd Lee Loope, 74, of Makawao, passed away July 4 in his home. A celebration of his life is being planned for a later time. Lloyd was a conservation biologist for the U.S. Geologic Survey and worked at Haleakala National Park. His passion was for preserving Hawaii’s native ecosystems; he was determined to quell the threat of invasive species. By calling attention to quarantine issues at Kahului Airport, he raised statewide public awareness of this serious problem.
