Exploding brain! Page 1 of the March 28 Maui News reports that the state will short the Maui check for its state hospital system $28 million next year and another $700,000 for the landfill (read loss of garbage collection).
Maui Memorial Medical Center has been actively seeking partnership with several ready, willing and able private entities including Kaiser (best thing on Maui!) to help them wean away from the blundering and inept state bureaucracy. This lack of funding will almost kill health care there. You’ll need a plane ride to Honolulu if you have a heart attack (read that funeral).
Then on Page 3, I read that the state spent $11 million “soliciting” (read that wining and dining at luxury resorts) bids for someone to upgrade their tech system, which currently consists of abacuses interconnected from office to office by strings and run by pathetically underachieving office workers protected from their ineptitude by government unions. And to top it off, they just up and gave up on the plan!
That’s one-third of the money needed to bolster the med/garbage system gone down the proverbial drain, and God knows how many other wasteful expenditures are being tossed down the taxpayer drain on shibai like this while basic services dwindle.
The French and Russian revolutions were loosely based on the same lack of care for the citizenry. Oh, I forgot, they didn’t have TV yet to placate the masses. “Let them watch Ace of Cakes!”
