Protest the burning of sugar cane on Maui

To all Maui people: Protest the cane burning on your island. I am a visitor. I love the island but I can’t breathe when I visit and the cane is being burned.

I can’t enjoy my grandchildren. They can’t breathe well either. Everybody seems to need inhalers. This is wrong. There must be another way to process the cane crop. The cane is burned at the expense of the health and welfare of the residents of Maui.

I understand state Sen. Josh Green is introducing a ban on burning. Please stand up and support this effort for the great future of Maui.

In a study of the effects of cane burning by The National Institutes of Health, this was concluded:

Our results show the adverse impact of sugar cane burning emissions on the health of the population, reinforcing the need for public efforts to reduce and eventually eliminate this source of air pollution.
