In reference to articles in the April 22 and May 15 editions of The Maui News, I’m confused as to why the newspaper decided to fixate on Nikhilananda, candidate for State House District 13, in the manner it did. Clearly, the newspaper is biased against Nikhilananda, which is unfortunate coming from the Maui paper of record.
We need people like Nikhilananda representing us in government. A quick look at his campaign website, www.friendsofnikhilananda.com, shows that he is highly qualified for the state Legislature, as a former commissioner on the county Board of Variances, former president/board member of the Haiku Community Association and former board member of Akaku.
He is also highly educated with an master’s in public law/urban affairs, a bachelor’s in political science and numerous other academic certificates. And he is also a longtime resident of Maui, mostly in state House District 13. Hopefully, in future articles that include Nikhilananda, The Maui News will omit any personal bias and refer to him by the name he is known as.
