I first want to say that I support the Lahaina Police Department; this is not an issue with them. It’s with local government. The police have their hands tied.
We have a huge problem with the homeless. Recently, there was a rape, a murder and a 2nd-grader getting grabbed by a homeless man. The vacant lot next to Lahaina Shores is a full-fledged homeless nest.
On my way to the mailbox, I passed a homeless man in a drunken stupor passed out next to Longhi’s.
On my way home on a recent night, there was a homeless man passed out on the lawn at Lahaina Baptist Church.
I reported a man urinating on the wall to the police, and they said they couldn’t do anything. They have no drunk tank, there’s no homeless shelter, so consequently the law-abiding taxpayers have to live among the drunks and drug addicts and just smile.
I’m not willing to concede the wonderful town that we love to those who can’t live by the rules. Please, let’s do something to solve the homeless problem in Lahaina, it’s out of control.
