In response to the March 9 letter which was filled with false information and unfounded accusations, I thought the writer and others would benefit from the facts regarding Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard's strong record on gun safety reform.
I'm guessing the writer saw the intentionally misleading tweet by a Hollywood actress who was trying to use lies and Mainland tactics to influence Hawaii voters -- tactics that have no place in our Aloha State.
Gabbard never received $500 from the NRA or any gun lobby, nor did she fill out a questionnaire, as the writer falsely stated. In fact, she doesn't accept donations from any political action committees.
She did donate double that amount to a local charity for Maui youths who provide support to survivors of gun violence. Tulsi has an F-rating from the NRA, a 0 percent rating by the Hawaii Rifle Association, and a 100 percent rating by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. She has co-sponsored sensible gun safety legislation to ban assault weapons, require universal background checks, ban bump stocks, close the gun show loophole and more.
If we wish to hold our leaders accountable we must not spread the kind of lies and propaganda that have become normalized by the current White House administration. Leadership and citizenship start with each of us being pono in our own words and deeds. Tulsi Gabbard is Hawaii's progressive, pono leader and the strong voice we need in Washington.
