Overkill displayed by US women’s soccer team
Our professional U.S women’s soccer team, ranked No. 1 and defending champion, faced amateurish Thailand. Final score: “A baker’s dozen” to “zero” (a record?). Goliath drubbed David.
Over the years, my admiration for the American team and its many “heroines” — my love gained by the raindrops — was lost by the bucketful by that one team on that one day. The overkill, nonstop celebrations on and off the field overtook the integrity of the game — they were excessive, unnecessary and, above all, cheap — humiliation trouncing humility. Can’t teach class!
