Youth of today provide hope for a better tomorrow

1 min read

Had I been an adult in Germany during the rise of Nazis, I wonder if I could have been able to assess what was going on and have had the courage to speak up about it. How could so many fall under the spell of Adolf Hitler? Who would follow such a man (in a largely Christian nation with democratic elections)? Plenty, unfortunately.

It would be interesting to see what American kids might be asking their parents 20 years from now about the politics of today and whether those parents stood up for democracy, integrity and decency. Future historians will not have good things to say about our current regime as it has brought out the worst in us.

But what encourages me about the future of American politics and Americans the most is the outstanding teens of today like the ones from Parkland, Fla. They, and more like them from Maui to Maine, will make for a much better nation and world.
