COVID-19 is far from over, we still haven't gotten over the first wave with numbers increasing daily. During these times, we are doing our part as individuals to be responsible. However, we are also entrusting our elected individuals to do their part too, making the tough decisions to protect our people.
Our tourist industry is Hawaii's largest source of income, and it has been hit drastically due to this horrible pandemic having a domino effect on many individuals and businesses.
With the pandemic spreading across the United States it has also affected our food industries. Many processing plants shut down causing a shortage of beef, pork and poultry. Unfortunately, many of our stores on our islands import those products instead of buying locally. Hopefully, this has opened the eyes of many Hawaii residents and businesses on the importance of supporting our local farmers and ranchers. Our islands need to be self-sustainable.
During this time many people have relied on food giveaways and that has helped many families get through some very tough times. Lynn DeCoite and her husband, Russell, has generously donated thousand of pounds of sweet potato across the state to this cause. Lynn is the only true farmer and rancher that sits at the State Capitol. She represents and supports Agriculture 100 percent. She has worked the land herself for many generations and knows the value of hard work.
Her track record speaks for itself. She has secured millions of dollars for District 13 through CIP and grants.
