The total eligible voter population of our country (rounded off to the nearest thousand) is 230,920,000. The total for electoral college votes is 538, based on representatives plus two for the Senate. This is one electoral vote for every 42,788 voters.
The electoral college vote is so many per state with no reference on what percent voted for which candidate. So, it's all or nothing. If the winner only gets 51 percent of the states' votes, they still get 100 percent of the electoral votes and the 49 percent candidate gets zero.
In the 2016 Presidential Election, only 56 percent of the eligible voters actually voted. Hillary received 66 million votes. Trump received 63 million votes, losing by 3 million. This is just under 5 percent of the popular vote, yet he won by the electoral college votes and became president.
Considering all the above, does the electoral college give all of the people in our country an equal voice in our government? Obviously, it doesn't. This, along with gerrymandering, has created the oligarchy in which we now live, which Trump believes is best for his dictatorship agenda.
Unless we as a nation get out and vote blue, this will only get worse. No "Trump sieg heil!" for me. How about you?
