This is in response to the recent article about someone who wants to overturn Hawaii's strict gun control laws so that he can protect himself.
The argument put forth for the right to pack a piece in public is that people have a right to self-defense. But seeing how people who are enjoying the right to self-arm behave, I would counter that such people really want to be able to intimidate others by showing off their armor.
Just look at what is going on in Portland, Ore. Heavily armed individuals, some with assault weapons, seeking a confrontation with others whom they do not agree with.
I do not want to see Hawaii devolve into what the Mainland has become with heavily armed individuals parading around in public looking for a fight. If that is what anyone wants, move to the Mainland and have at it.
If the appellate court gives in, I hope at least they only allow concealed carry and not open carry of weapons. At least concealed carry must remain concealed and cannot be used to intimidate without risk of a brandishing charge.
