Waiting for a vaccine on Maui is not an easy task when you are under 75 and have an underlying medical condition that could result in a severe outcome if you are unfortunate enough to get COVID-19.
So, you read the online news daily to see if today's your lucky day and you get the vaccine that could save your life.
You read how the numbers of new COVID-19 infections on Maui are higher than on Oahu. You read how the more infectious variant is spreading throughout Hawaii, except of course for Kauai. You read how Maui is last in vaccinating their residents, but first for tourist arrivals.
Unfortunately, you also read callous and condescending comments from people like Dr. Libby Char. Dr. Char, who I'm sure is vaccinated, likes to remind those waiting to "be patient and wait your turn."
This has also been the case for the leadership here on Maui. This unsolicited advice only angers those who have a higher rate of death. We are patient and have waited our turn.
So, instead of telling us how we should wait, just focus on getting all residents who want it vaccinated as soon as possible.
