Unfair to be taxed same as vacation rentals
My wife and I own a condo in Maalaea. We use it as a second home six months out of the year. We do not rent or lease our unit to anyone.
Maui County Council changed our tax status to the same as a vacation rental unit. This effectively doubles our property taxes.
This is very unfair to be lumped into the same category as those owners that are running a vacation rental business.
Something needs to be done about this money grab on the part of the county.
