Maui Planning Commission is now debating whether to give Costco a permit for additional gas pumps. The commissioners seem to be concerned about traffic in the area.
Possibly they noticed that the Costco parking lot has the most traffic of any place on Maui. In fact, you often must wait for someone to pull out before you can get a spot. All that traffic doesn't seem to stop people from going to Costco.
Now let's look at what is around Costco. A bunch of empty fields and a bunch of food trucks. I suspect the food trucks would welcome more traffic.
Right now, it takes a long time to get gas at Costco as the lines are very long. Everybody waits. In fact, at times, gas at Costco is $1 per gallon less than many other places on Maui.
Now Costco is going to make it easier and faster to get gas and save money. A great idea for all of us.
I respectfully suggest that Maui Planning Commission think of us local residents and how expensive it is for all of us to live here and quickly give Costco their permit. Stop worrying about a traffic problem that's not going to happen.
