Underpass less costly than crossing guards
I take exception to the opinion that a crossing guard is less expensive than the cost of building an underpass for Kihei High.
Has the writer of that opinion taken the time to calculate the number of guards required to fulfill crossing duties during school hours and after-school events?
What about the cost of those guards for fringe benefits, sick and personal time off as well as for personal vacations? The guards would require being paid during summer vacation and other school breaks. What about retiree pension and medical expenses?
And this for all eternity!
I say biting the bullet, closing the highway for the time it takes and constructing an underpass would be a much less expensive solution!
