Recall petition count represents small minority

It was reported Dec. 11 in The Maui News that the petitions that were submitted to call for a recall election of the mayor had only 3,211 signatures.

Only 1,564 (48 percent) of those signatures were valid. So, since 21,586 valid signatures are required to initiate the recall election, the valid signatures on the petitions represented just the 7.2 percent of the number required. Hmmmm.

Sheila Walker, the leader of the recall effort, was quoted Oct. 25 in The Maui News at the start of the recall petition effort that if they were successful in getting to the recall election, she would be worried about the “integrity and legitimacy” of the election itself. I wonder if she plans to sue the county alleging fraud for the recall petition signature count?

Walker is quoted Dec. 11 in The Maui News saying, “We win because we stood up for what we know to be right.”

Obviously, she has not won, and it appears that her sense of what’s right represents a very small minority among registered voters on Maui.

I think Sheila Walker might be happier living in a state like Florida amongst more like-minded Trumplicans like herself.
