The West needs an exit policy to end the billions of dollars and arms it is providing Ukraine to prolong the Russian adventure.
Further, the West needs Russian energy agricultural commodities. Since the Western-backed 2014 coup in the Ukraine, the West has agitated Russia and the Russian people in Ukraine and now that Russia has responded, we see the Western commitment to Ukraine is waning.
When failure looms, the Western strategy is to leave a country in a state of societal collapse (some recent examples are Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan).
It would be consistent with past Western practices to eliminate the current leaders in Ukraine and exit the conflict, leaving Ukraine in a state of collapse and letting the Russians inherit a disaster.
