About covering spread, not winning the game

1 min read

I was watching the Alabama vs. Vanderbilt game. I could not figure out why Alabama kept going on fourth down and short twice, despite leading by 18 points in the first half against Vanderbilt.

People who know the game of football would really question the play calling. It makes no sense. Most teams would punt. Alabama is a powerhouse football program ranked two in the nation. Vanderbilt is nowhere near being national ranked for the last 25 years and has never come close to winning a national championship.

The Bama program has many national championships, and was favored by 40 points over Vanderbilt. If you were to ask me, Bama was concerned about covering the spread of 40 points and not winning the game.

In my opinion, some of these high-profile college football programs are using kids for profit from gambling. These are college kids who are being exploited for gambling profits. It is estimated that over $1 billion in gambling profits alone have been made from college football alone every year.
