More unified planet would benefit people

Many people are opposed to the notion of a “one world government” or a “new world order,” but are they unaware of the trend or thrust of societal evolution?

Small family groups joined together to form clans or tribes. Progressively tribes created hamlets, which became villages, which became towns, then cities and states. States grew into nations. Within the last hundred years, nations have sought more perfect unions. Worldwide, governance has continued to be centralized within larger groups of peoples.

The positive aim has been to centralize control over a more unified and cohesive combination of distinct and disparate peoples. The intention has been to secure more uniform freedoms, greater security, peace and understanding among various cultures, and, ideally to eliminate national spasms of destruction.

The United Nations was not created to bring heaven down to Earth, but to help us avoid the hell of war, aggression, gang rule and despotism.

Few would argue that the means to the achievement of these ideals would include the equitable distribution of goods, services, wealth and knowledge. Improved practical considerations contribute to cooperation, improved ethical behavior and increased dialog among nations of very different histories and beliefs.

Instead of obstructing the trend toward a more unified planet, we should strive to appoint those of the highest quality and consciousness to govern more of us.
