I'm writing this on behalf of one of Maui's heroes, Dennis Burns, who with his wife Suzanne Burry founded Valley Isle Animal Rescue, the organization that's helped save and rescue countless pets and wildlife over the past decades here on Maui.
He started with no money, but lots of heart. Well, it's Dennis who's in need right now.
He's been in Maui Memorial with a broken bone in his back and an infection near his spine.
He just underwent surgery to stabilize the fractures and he's on antibiotics to fight the infection.
He'll be recovering at Hale Makua. Dennis has a long road to recovery ahead as he heals and rehabs and learns to walk again.
His prognosis is good, especially for a fighter like he's been, and with all our support, I believe he'll be back on his feet again.
Meanwhile, he would never ask for it, but he needs some love.
I heard there's going to be a GoFundMe effort and I hope everyone who can help will contribute as he's going to have many thousands of dollars owed in medical bills.
Dennis has given his everything to help those in need in our community and I hope we can all help him in his time of need.
