I have contacted the state Clean Air Branch, Maui County construction inspector and a former state legislator many times regarding fugitive dust emanating from the construction of the former Maui Lu timeshare.
The state had inspectors from Oahu check the complaint in the morning (no wind) and departed for home in the afternoon when gusty wind in excess of 25 to 35 mph occurs.
The county inspector followed the same routine, claiming other projects need inspection.
And now Mahi Pono, after all these years, gets fined.
What happened here? Were my complaints not warranted?
Claiming "The production of dust is one of the persistent challenges" (The Maui News, July 20, 2023).
Then, why are they plowing fields not ready for planting or irrigation system in place?
