Hoping for bright future at MHS

2 min read

Welcome to the new CEO of Maui Humane Society, Lisa Labrecque.

She is a big supporter of spay/neuter programs. Maui desperately needs access to affordable spay and neuter for both cats and dogs.

Ending the dog-fix program based on overcrowding was such a horrible decision. As a weekly Beach Buddy volunteer, I know all too well how crowded the kennels have been, but common sense dictates that population control is key to solving this issue.

I am hoping the new CEO will reinstate three much used and much needed programs/policies that have sadly been eliminated in the last few years.

Besides providing spay and neuter for dogs, please reinstate the "friendly ear tip" for fostered, once-feral kittens. This makes it easier for fosters to find them homes. It would be great to have a new category like bottle baby for these sweet, hand-raised babies so they don't need to be brought in a trap.

Lastly, please bring back "the $25 last resort phone call." This is an important option for those helping animals in need. So many volunteers are feeding hundreds of cats and trapping ferals for health care and neutering. As someone who has fostered over 100 kittens in the last three years, I truly appreciate the MHS feral neutering program and hope to see it flourish and expand with friendly tipping available again.

So many volunteers and pet owners depend on MHS. Please know the staff is much appreciated and we wish the best for their new leader.
