August 11, there was a field fire near Kaanapali.
The police pounded on the door to evacuate. Our Lahaina fire evacuees followed the police evacuation directions. No emergency sirens were sounded even though that had been a huge contribution to Lahaina's fire death toll from a few days before.
The street was evacuated towards the fire and directed to walk into a dead end. An alternate route would have led them away from the fire and a safe exit. Wouldn't the police have been trained to know this?
Last week's fire beside Kaanapali had the emergency sirens sounded and some cellphones received emergency alerts. Some were registered for alerts, had gotten alerts in the past, but did not receive any cellphone alert this time. The power was turned off.
The Chinook helicopter arrived and dropped huge amounts of water on this fire in Wahikuli Gulch. Homes and vacation rentals evacuated.
Spectrum texted that because their TV cable service had been interrupted for less than four hours, I would not be receiving any credit. I texted them back that we had not had Spectrum TV service for 18 days.
