Our housing crisis is not the only reason Hawaiians are forced to move to the mainland.
Lack of available medical care is also an urgent problem.
Recently, an adorable six-year-old little boy spent several days in the emergency room at Maui Memorial Medical Center.
There were no beds available on Maui or Oahu for the care he required. His single-parent mom slept on the emergency room floor next to her son. Mom was scared, along with being both mentally and physically exhausted.
Her family and friends were in disbelief, asking themselves, why? This is not some developing country. How could this happen in Hawaii?

As an experienced ER doctor, as well as the chief executive officer of Hawaii, our governor must act with his unique combination of medical and executive skills to solve this crisis.
If not, we may soon see a sign on our hospital doors: "Medical care not available; Hawaiian Airlines Flight 34 departs for the mainland at 2:35 p.m."
