I know I am not the only one who is sick and tired of the fireworks going off every single night.
During our neighborhood potluck for Thanksgiving Day, it was a major topic of discussion.
We are all triggered by it, not only because of the potential fire hazard and the fact that some sound like bombs, but also because our yards have been extremely dry.
Furthermore, it bothers me a lot because working within mental health, I know there are veterans who must mentally prepare themselves before certain holidays because loud explosions cause PTSD.
We have been instructed not to water our lawns and have the threat of heavy fines hanging over our heads. I have been a firm believer in protecting Maui's precious waters for years, but with all these fireworks going off every night and termite-eaten electric poles, one can't help but wish they could water their lawn without feeling guilty or threatened with $500 fines.
I'm sure many of us just can't afford excessive charges anymore. According to the Department of Water Supply, on Nov. 8, a Stage 2 water shortage will remain in place until further notice.
How is this fair and why do the people have to pay so heavily? The county should be making sure people aren't lighting illegal fireworks every night that can cause fires and fixing these decrepit power lines. I understand it takes time, but how long? Many are traumatized and scared, and irritating fireworks do not help.
