Christians and other religious people, with good reason, have a firm belief in the survival of life and consciousness, or soul, after the destruction of the physical body.
How then can abortion be considered murder, the taking of a life?
One can destroy the human form, but not the ensouling life which departs the body.
This is not to suggest that abortion is free of invasive karma. After action, there is reaction. Causes produce effects or consequences. An abortion causes the severing of relationships destined at the time of conception.
Let's consider one aborted fetus. Might it not have been destined to marry and parent children? Who in turn might have done likewise? And so on.
Perhaps the terminated fetus was destined to be a great benefactor of medical research. Or a great statesman during a world crisis. Or simply someone who brought joy to many hearts and benefit to many lives.
My teaching included the notion that by the time of conception, many future relationships, karmic life-patterns, worthwhile achievements, prospective influences and rare and necessary tasks may comprise the destiny of the unborn.
Once the life thread has withdrawn, countless connections and all the subsequent ramifications must be undone. This inevitably causes voids or tears in the web, weft or matrix of material, less material, immaterial and spiritual relationships.
This is the true consequence of abortion. The destruction of otherwise feasible, karmic, destined or viable relationships.
