Mourning for large canopy tree harmed

Graffiti artist Banksy must feel the same heartbreak I do when I see a majestic tree shorn of its leaves.

The photo in the March 9 newspaper showed no leaves and stubbed branches of Lahaina’s banyan.

The pruning must have been done by someone who knows nothing about trees. The leaves are as important as the roots for a tree’s growth.

Our climate is so forgiving, you soon see a flush of growth.

These are poorly attached branches that can cause damage in a windstorm.

Trees are important to all of us in our community. Whenever I see a large canopy tree harmed, I mourn for it. As does the condition of our world as Banksy’s tree was in London.
