Prolonged darkness can release demons

2 min read

Many people know have experienced a "dark night of the soul," either in an extreme form or one of lesser intensity.

Even nations appear to pass through periods of great uncertainty, test, trial and loss of confidence.

Common signs, symptoms and syndromes accompany this difficult psychological and spiritual transition.

First and foremost, a person or nation will sense an absence, withdrawal or loss of grace. A deeply felt sense of wrongdoing, being abandoned for cause; lost or imperiled by pending blowback may occur.

A person or nation that feels within a darkly cast shadow, whether or not mindful of the light at the heart of all life, will experience a loss of passion, vitality, peace, joy, hope and grace.

Either will seem to have relapsed or regressed mentally, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. This aspect of diminished consciousness might be called a neurasthenia of the psyche.

In the throes of a dark cyclic pattern, a person or nation must be wise enough and thoughtfully disciplined to consider it a passage, preparation, purification or purgation preceding a higher state.

Otherwise, the instability that results from prolonged darkness can release the demons, savage instincts and barbarous atavisms latent within all of us.

Either we will heal and transcend the shadowy fissures of the human brain and remove the flickering nature of our understanding, or we will deepen and extend the darkness within us and delay a new revelation of light.
