Gift opportunity may not come around again

When I went to Baldwin High School over 40 years ago, there was a excellent, old school English teacher, Mr. Shelton.

His knowledge of English exceeded that of many college English instructors.

I was lucky to have him as a teacher, in his last year before he retired.

I didn't realize how broad his knowledge of English was until I went to college.

A lawyer friend told me the same thing. He said law is based on the interpretation of language.

Speaking pidgin language makes college English difficult for locals in English.

You have to realize that when you have the opportunity to receive a gift, you are lucky. It does not come around all the time.

I didn't take Mr. Shelton seriously and it was my loss.
