I agree there is a need for housing Lahaina fire victims. New housing should be built to accommodate them.

The Minatoya list is a convenient target, but it is the wrong target. The list was developed by a past corporation counsel (Minatoya) to identify properties which should be grandfathered in for short-term rentals as they were legal uses when they were built.
Most of these condominiums are in Kihei and Napili as well as in each destination resort area like Wailea, Kaanapali and Kapalua.
Short-term rentals in single-family residential subdivisions should be the target of repeal of short-term rentals.
We made a mistake by passing the shor- term rental ordinance which allows this use in residential areas and we should be big enough to rescind it when we know we have made a mistake.
Right issue, wrong target.
Short-term rentals should be allowed to continue in resort areas. This separates visitor and residential uses.
