I have contacted my South Maui Council Member, Tom Cook, several times, regarding the shared concerns of many Maui families on housing, infrastructure and island affordability.
Yet, I have not received a response.
Replying to a letter from a Maui family from their elected representative is not just a formality; it's a sign of respect and care for the community. It's a way to acknowledge our concerns and ensure our voices are heard.
Politicians may make promises and attempt to distract us with superficial, feel-good photo ops, but we, the voters, are not easily swayed.
We hold the power. We demand a voice, accountability, honesty, and transparency. It's time to realize and use our power to shape our community's future.
As the upcoming elections draw near, it's crucial to make informed choices that will shape our community's future.
Take the time to review a politician's history, promises and leadership successes. Ask pointed questions. Don't settle for wishy-washy answers that lack clear thinking.
The decisions made by those we elect will profoundly impact our struggles and quality of life for future generations. The power is in our hands, and we must use it wisely.
It's time we held our elected officials to the highest standard. The "good old-boy choices" are not working for Maui families.
