As we watch the debate about how to help alleviate the housing shortage, it is clear that many agree that short-term rentals in all their forms outside of hotels and hotel like settings play a role in our housing shortage situation.
I think that in spite of many predictions to the contrary that if the units on the Minatoya list are placed back into the housing mix, as well as homes in residential areas (if that process is rolled back, and it should be), we will see the age-old effect of supply and demand take hold.
Put that many living spaces into the market and something will change. And if the past is prologue, it will be that some costs will be reduced.
When folks have a place to live, things happen that will make significant contributions to the economy as well.
The sky will not fall, a new reality will take form and life will be better for many. Big change is hard, messy and full of noise.
