I live in a Minatoya condo complex. We are zoned as apartment two and property tax rate for short-term rentals as hotel and resort.
These condos were made for short term. They are only 600 square feet, with one bath, a kitchen that only one person can work in at a time and one parking place for each condo.
You have to live small to be here for 33 years like my wife and I. Luckily, we live on the second floor so we have a loft area above the bathroom so that gives us a storage area of about 40 square feet.
That is our Costco room. Buy in bulk, need to go up into the loft. Also, for Christmas decorations, luggage or anything not needed weekly.
We even took out our dishwasher and put in a pull-out drawer cabinet for food storage.
I don't know how a family of four could even live with the kids' toys as someone would have to sleep in the living room, which is also used as a dining area.
Each unit has a 50-square=foot lanai, but it is open to the wind, so not so good for storage.
How does a family of four rent and enjoy their time in these units? They are on the vacation of their lives in Maui. They don't bring all the stuff they have at home. They are only here for a week or less and can make do with the smallness and one bathroom.
The people that lost their homes in the fires want them back.
