A government walls a certain group into an area several square miles and treats them as non-persons.
The group revolts and the government imprisoning them attacks to starve them, kill them and raze the whole area to the ground.
If you think I'm talking about the Gaza Strip you're wrong. This was the Warsaw Ghetto in 1943.
But the parallels to what is occurring in Gaza are eerily similar, except the Nazis were trying to deport the Jews to concentration camps.
We don't know yet where the Israeli government will deport the Palestinians. Maybe they intend to simply let them starve in the rubble that is Gaza.
When the Nazis did this it was called genocide and it is also genocide when the Israeli government does it.
Saying so isn't being antisemitic and in no way excuses the Hamas attack.
The Israeli government is doing to the Palestinians what Jews have accused others of doing to them throughout history. But that doesn't make it right and our government should not be supporting this atrocity.
Those who are not students of history are doomed to repeat it and we would do well to remember that.
